Major Japanese full-service travel agency, Kinki Nippon Tourist Company Ltd (KNT), has announced to it will begin offering packages for overseas luxury hotels and resorts to customers via its website. Unlike traditional packages which bundle both airfare and accommodation, the new packages will include accommodation at luxury hotels and resorts only - not airline tickets.
According to KNT officials, needs for "hotel only" plans have increased recently due to more travelers redeeming accumulated air miles from airline mileage plans for tickets. The spread of discount travel agencies, many of which specialize in selling discount airline tickets only, has also helped increase the number of Japanese outbound travelers and increased demand for "hotel-only" plans according to KNT officials.
KNT's luxury hotel and resort plans will be designed specifically to cater to the needs of frequent business travelers planning to redeem miles for overseas family vacations and other high net worth segments which travel frequently by air.
The agency expects to sell "hotel only" plans for approximately 20,000 customers between October 2008 and March 2009.
