New Premium Packaged Food Products

September 03, 2008

Itochu Shokuhin, the food product subsidiary of Japanese trading house Itochu, has announced it will launch a new line of luxury prepared food products. Itcho Shokuhin has formalized agreements with several well-known, premium restaurants throughout the country and is cooperating with them to create packaged food products inspired by their most popular menu items.

Itochu Shokuhin officials feel the domestic prepared food market is bifurcating, with needs increasing in both low-end and premium segments. While lower-end needs are being met by the spread of store-branded products, Itochu Shokuhin has chosen to focus on unmet and increasing needs at the top of the packaged foods market with its new launch.

The new line-up currently includes frozen hamburger steak and chocolate products created in conjunction with well-known European style restaurant Gotoshima in Hakodate, Hokkaido. Frozen Chinese Dumpling products created in cooperation with premium Chinese restaurant Pao (locations in Ikebukuro, Tokyo and Umeda, Osaka) and three types of pasta sauce created in association with well-established Italian restaurant Officina di Enrico of Omotesando, Tokyo will also be introduced shortly.

All products are to be sold in premium supermarkets and department stores and offered by select grocery home delivery services.
