Tax reduction on luxury car imports in the Japanese market

According to the Japan Association of Vehicle Importers, 2814 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were imported into Japan in April of this year, an 18% increase over the same month last year.

In April the import tax was reduced from 5% to 3% thus presenting favorable conditions for those importing expensive luxury vehicles. In second place was BMW with 2646 vehicles which translates as an 8.4% increase. In third for import numbers was Volkswagen who actually saw a 2.1% decrease, or 2481 vehicles. BMW's Mini and Toyota took 4th and 5th place respectively.
