Japan’s Luxury Pet Supplies Market Grows

Major manufacturers of household goods and food products are focusing their attention on the growing market for high-end pet supplies in Japan.

In recent years, more and more people in Japan consider their pets to be members of the family and want to choose healthy food and high-quality furniture for their pets, even if they have to pay a little more.

The Japanese pet goods market has expanded 1.2 times compared to five years ago.

MUJI, which offers a large selection of simple and fashionable products such as furniture, interior, kitchenware, and clothing, will launch new cat-related products on November 20. The lineup will include cat food, cat treats, and cat furniture.

Aeon Pet, a subsidiary of distribution giant Aeon, will sell Christmas cakes and osechi (Japanese traditional New Year’s dishes) for pet owners to celebrate anniversaries with their pets, and is preparing to sell osechi for over 10,000 yen.

Unicharm, a major manufacturer of hygiene products, and Calbee, a snack food maker, have both developed snack foods for dogs.
