Number of Fake Branded Goods Imported into Japan Reaches Record High

The number of cases in which Japan’s national customs stopped the importation of counterfeit brand goods during the year 2024 exceeded 30,000, the highest number to date.

Compared to the 2023 figure, this resulted in a 4.3% increase, the largest number since 1987, when the publication began.

China was the largest source country (80.6%), followed by Vietnam (9.7%) and Malaysia (3.0%).

Clothing (31.1%) was the most common type of product, followed by purses and bags (19.3%) and shoes (11.2%).

Since October 2022, imported goods intended for personal use have also been subject to the crackdown, and this is believed to have contributed to the increase in the number of cases.
