JR Tokai to Open First Luxury Hotel in Nara, Aiming at Affluent Visitors to Japan

JR Tokai Group, one of Japan’s major railroad operators, announced on April 5 that it has partnered with Hyatt Hotels, a major U.S. hotel company, to develop its first luxury hotel, Hotel Nei Nara.

The hotel will be part of Hyatt’s “Unbound Collection by Hyatt” luxury brand, aiming to attract inbound guests, especially from Europe, the U.S., and Australia.

The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand includes a variety of hotels “collected” from around the world, including luxury boutique hotels in historic sites and buildings to modern urban retreats. According to Hyatt Hotels, each hotel will capitalize on its unique story to provide customers with an experience that can only be found there.

The detailed opening date and scale of the hotel have not been determined at this time, but it is expected to be completed by June 2032.

According to JR Tokai, about half of the hotel’s guests are expected to be visitors to Japan, and the company decided to partner with Hyatt because it felt it was necessary to develop the hotel with a well-known foreign brand that they are familiar with.
